SPEAKER OF THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY OF KENYA RT.HON. MOSES M. WETANG’ULA, MAKES A VISIT TO ALGERIA

The Rt.Hon. Moses M. Wetang’ula, Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic Kenya made a six-day visit to the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria from 19th to 24th February, 2023 At the invitation of H.E Mr. Brahim Boughali, President of the Algerian People’s National Assembly. The Speaker was accompanied by Seven Members of Parliament, Principal Secretary for Cabinet Affairs and a Policy Advisor on Governance in the Office of the President and Officers from the Fertilizer Unit in the State Department for Agriculture.

During this Official Visit, the Hon. Speaker held meetings with his host as well as H.E Salah Goudjil, the President of the Council of the Nation (Senate). The Speaker also had an opportunity to meet Hon. Hamma Salama, Speaker of the National Assembly of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic.  These meetings discussed the development of Parliamentary Diplomacy between the two countries and the formation of the Kenya-Algeria Parliamentary Friendship Group that will be the driver of the relations between the legislative bodies of the two countries. The Friendship Group was constituted and will progress with future meetings on mutually agreed dates and venues.

Apart from the engagement with the Legislature, the Speaker held several meetings with the Executive including with the President of the Republic and Ministers in charge of sectors of interest to the relations between the Republic of Kenya and the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria.

The Speaker also found time for excursions to two wilays neighbouring Algiers, Blida and Tipaza where he had the opportunity to see the progress in citrus farming, technologies for agricultural plants, agro-processing, manufacture of building and construction materials, and manufacture of cosmetics among others.
