Remarks by H.E Amb. Katana Angore during the signing ceremony of the MOU establishing the Kenya – Algeria joint business council on 15th April 2021 at the Algerian Chamber of Commerce and Industry building

Today is yet another moment for us to celebrate the coming to reality of our collective effort to bring our business people together. The opportunities that exist for both Kenya and Algeria are enormous. Kenya is the gateway of a larger East African market as Algeria is to the Maghreb.

I am very pleased that this signing ceremony is taking place today. The signing of theMOU establishing the Kenya-Algeria Joint Business Councilis a milestone in the journey of giving life to our common aspirations. These aspirations fit well in the bigger vision of our forefathers dating back to the inception of the African Union and now being made more realistic by the entry into force of the African Continental Free Trade Area this year, bringing intra-Africa trade to focus.

As modest as this ceremony may seem today, it is an important cog in the effort towards Africa’s economic integration. The Kenya-Algeria Business Council is a big step towards achieving our continent’s desire to linking east to northern Africa and breaking the barriers that have may existed for far too long.  Congratulations to both the two Chambers of Commerce and Industry for taking this bold step.

May I conclude by saying that the best outcome of this Business Council will be achieved by taking advantage of our productive capacities and investing in joint ventures that make us part of the global value chain thus providing opportunities for jobs for our people along the way.  I am very much encouraged by the vigour demonstrated by the two Chambers and assure you of the commitment of the Embassy of Kenya in Algiers in support this course.

May I also take this opportunity to wish our Muslim brothers and sisters a rewarding Ramadhan and pray that all your prayers and ours are answered.  Ramadhan Mubarak.

Shukran.
